Centrica DSR: how it works

We connect smart energy devices to the platform in a number of flexible ways – including direct-to-device, cloud-to-cloud or via an intermediary gateway including our Hive hub. Once connected, the Centrica DSR platform dispatches steering signals to the device within set boundary conditions.

By monitoring activity levels on the grid and the flexibility of each device, in near real-time, our platform can reduce peaks of demand and prices in the energy system – and could help give customers cheaper, more sustainable electricity.

The platform connects individual devices to a larger pool, creating a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). This creates more reliable energy flexibility and unlocks financial and diversification synergies which can help support a more sustainable and secure grid.

Joining the Centrica DSR VPP means devices can participate in the trading of energy and balancing services across ESO, DSO and Energy Markets. This not only helps to balance the grid as a whole, but could also help device owners lower energy bills in the long term.
