Sandbox Project Bags Two Major Industry Awards

We are delighted to have won in quick succession both the award for Net Zero initiative – Heating and Cooling at The Energy Awards, and the Smart Systems and Flexibility Project of the Year at The Net Zero Edie Awards for our Sandbox project.

Alongside Dimplex and Midland Heart Housing Association, we conducted trials under Ofgem’s regulation innovation sandbox programme to offer flexibility services into the Balancing Mechanism, the electricity system operator's (ESO's) primary tool used for balancing supply and demand on Britain's electricity transmission network. This was the first-time home heating devices have been used for such a service, paving a much more consumer-led, demand-side approach to energy flexibility in the UK.

This news coincides with the next stage of our partnership with Dimplex – the British Gas Dimplex Quantum Tariff. The tariff allows consumers to directly benefit from DSR with a reduced night-time rate compared to other E7 tariffs. With even more Dimplex storage heaters connected to our VPP, this provides the opportunity to build on the evidence and insight gained from the Sandbox trial and continue to grow our aggregation services.
