British Gas announces strategic partnership with Samsung
British Gas and Samsung have announced the exciting first step in a long-term venture - aimed at helping customers better manage their energy use and increase the adoption of low carbon heating technologies in homes across Britain.
The collaboration will see British Gas integrate with Samsung’s SmartThings app to help customers optimise their home appliances to use energy when the cost and demand are lower. This is now possible through the integration of SmartThings Energy and British Gas’ PeakSave demand flexibility scheme informing customers (by sending notifications via their smartphone, TV or other compatible devices) of the best times to use household appliances to save money.
This collaboration is underpinned by Centrica’s industry leading intelligent energy platform. Using the latest AI, automation and mathematical optimisation technologies, we are able to identify key opportunities in grid and market conditions when energy usage is peaking and then notify all SmartThings users that are signed up to the service enabling them reduce overall energy consumption for key periods of time.
This agreement really leverages all of Centrica’s core capabilities in the domestic energy space: our large residential customer base and access to flexibility markets, our understanding of domestic energy use and customer behaviour as well as our market-leading demand side response technology platform, alongside Samsung’s market leading smart home technology and platform. This is the start of a great opportunity to bring the benefits of DSR to a much larger range of British consumers than ever before and accelerate our customer’s journey’s towards NetZero.
